FLATTERY

Respect like a shameful homage
Honour like forced labour
Esteem like a service paid for
Love like a live or die bait
Laughter like a crack in the wall
Dialogue like the lines of poetry.

Hangouts like the scenes of an act
Gifts like a bribe in the back
Hugs like an electrifying chair
Eulogies like a well of woes
Celebration like a faded funeral
That’s flattery, like a false friend.
