rocky-road-in-the-mountains-of-afghanistan_-download-high-res-___It was a nightmare
Something too sinister, like a bad dream
That brought crippling fears near
Which could never once be drilled
I grappled upon the rocky highway
Making my hands the compass
Which led me across the staircase
Way far from the hall path
Through the blurring decision
My fussy fingers felt a friend
One long departed on a mission
To show disaster a shameful end
Like fingerlings in cold water
We clung to each other for survival
Hoping to cross alive that river
That washes off mankind’s denial
Jittery and undecided
We took snail-like leaps
With closed eyes wrongly wounded
Afraid but eager to blink away those scenes.
